As I was wandering through the wilderness of DSW Warehouse earlier today many thoughts came to my mind. First, there were the immediate thoughts such as, "Oh my gosh, is the market for women's shoes really this big?" and, "Man, my feet are killing me." Then as I sat down on one of the little stools that they have for you to try on shoes I thought, "They should call these 'Husband Chairs'." As my thought process eased away from the horrid reality I was facing in that shoe store (as it so often seems to do, no matter what I'm doing), I started to wonder if maybe there was some type of market that I might be able to cater to for all of my fellow husband/purse holder/slave people. I do have a few ideas and I would love to hear some of yours whether you are a woman or a man.
First, how about a nice waiting room. Women get sofas in the bathroom, why can't we get some in ours. That would be the first place I'd head to so I could pull out my blackberry, see what all my friends that I don't know all around the world are doing on Twitter and find out if Vanderbilt was winning or not (no Vandy jokes, this is about shopping with your wife). Maybe if the store was really keen on helping our poor souls they could have a T.V. with cable. We'd only need ESPN. I know that there are some guys who don't like sports and I admit I don't watch it all the time, but I can't really imagine sitting on a sofa in the men's bathroom with other men watching anything other than a sporting channel. Maybe a hunting channel or something.
So you might be thinking, "yeah right, like a retail store is going to do this for us in a down economy." I say, if they aren't thinking of making us more comfortable they are losing customers. After a while I admit, I start whining like a baby ready to go home and tend to my poor feet and feed my ever growing mid region. If DSW warehouse had the aforementioned ammeneties for the brothers in the house I wouldn't mind staying all day. I know that if my wife didn't have me nagging her while she was trying to decide which pair of $50 shoes she was going to buy, she might have time to talk herself into getting all three. Now that is a sound business plan.
